Reminder that Heathen Disco’s newest release is Purple Vu, another newsletter focusing on less-new music and antiquity of some kind. I’m prepping a big roundup of recent reissues to run over there, and I’d love for you to go over there and sign up and purchase a subscription to go along with what you’re getting here.

“Aggrieved nerd” isn’t a tone I wish to cultivate around here, and I’m doing my level best to not sound like the pack rushing to keep up behind me. That’s the Heathen Disco (and Purple Vu) promise!

Here then is some cool new music. You like cool music, right?

CARLA DAL FORNO Confession LP (Kallista)

Four volumes in and Carla dal Forno hasn’t changed for anyone. Top tier sad/bed rot x fashion/selfie times, with the conviction to not overdo it; minimal is the mode, on bass, acoustic guitar, drum machine, synths, melodica, wood block and her remarkably chill voice. Thematically these songs feel of a piece with the best material by her experimental trio F INGERS, only arranged into pop instead of creep mode eerie electronics. There’s a couple schlager style elderly tunes towards the front that don’t sit as well, but they’re a level set to keep this one at a low simmer, rather than freak out on some gauche electronics or million dollar production schemes. The best of it, like “Blue Skies” and “Gave You Up,” plays like a grown Marine Girls astral projecting into the realities of the modern era. Almost the kind of record you could set down and walk away from, and someone else would pick it up and get on its familiar yet unknowable wavelength. Cover art for once doesn’t look like something a private detective shot. Here’s Carla!
