Hey folks — pretty tuckered out, on day two of on-the-job training, gradually chipping away at my to-do list and making good time. Here’s some music that pushed me over as of late.

Thanks for reading and contributing music, getting to it all as I can.

You may not think so, but we need more newsletters like this one, good places for someone with the ear and the ability to explain said ear to tell us what we should be listening to, and slyly denigrating other writers whose opinions we tell ourselves we cannot tolerate. We need more of these to combat that negativity. And without Beehiiv, I wouldn’t have gotten this one off the ground. Great product, fully endorsed by me, and keeps this enterprise going. Look into them if you have something to say and want to get it out there.

Why is everyone launching a newsletter?

Because it’s how creators turn attention into an owned audience, and an audience into a real, compounding business.

The smartest creators aren’t chasing followers. They’re building lists. And they’re building them on beehiiv, where growth, monetization, and ownership are built in from day one.

If you’re serious about turning what you know into something you own, there’s no better place to start. Find out why the fastest-growing newsletters choose beehiiv.

And for a limited time, take advantage of 30% off your first 3 months with code GROW30.

Gentle reminder here once again that subscribers get it all — all the content behind the paywall for a very reasonable price, and an offer for a discount on Purple Vu once I open the gates for that one (new related publication covering old music, vintage thoughts and crate dig expeditions).

Better do it now, yeah?

BILL NACE Plays the 2 String Taishogoto LP (Three Lobed/Open Mouth)

Two thick, sinewy approaches from the nacest guy around, kind of a jump away from some of his more abstract recent offerings, a pure improv record set to the blackout round of two electrified strings. “Over/Under” presents a full side of serrated, harmonious feedback grind, the lower string tapping out a Morse code of constant presence against the psychic whipcord of the other, harmonious in their rancor and chaos. “One for Susan Alcorn” pays tribute to our fallen hero with over 18 minutes of two-note hammer-ons, played live and without breaks to bring you towards the meditative marathon of its repetition. Listen a little more deeply and you’ll figure out the secret: both strings are being played in the same fashion on either side, with only the treatments and attenuation making the difference. Subsumed by undertones, this is a perfect complement to the other side, built to zone specifications for maximum cerebral advancement. Dare you not try?

So much more after the jump. Show me you got what it takes!
