Heathen Disco Music Reviews #0136 (October 17, 2025)

The Tinyletter Era (2018-2020) revisited

Here is a chunk of reviews I wrote from the initial Heathen Disco newsletter published through Tinyletter. I used one of these last week to cover Possible Humans’ first album and I’ll be cycling these through on days when new reviews are not forthcoming. I’m glad this stuff is still kinda floating in sent folders, because that product is long gone. It’s good for us to see how many random self-released records and tapes were proliferating before the pandemic fucked all that up, and the aftermath stays fucked. Six years ago these things were happening; the tenor of music was not doused yet. If we read about these times, maybe we can learn to have them once again.

We’re gonna reheat this stuff tonight because I just packed and priced six boxes of records for the Andersonville Vintage Market coming this Sunday, Oct. 19th, 10a-4p here in Chicago at Clark & Winona. I’ll be there alongside my beloved and we’ll be selling more than the records – vintage board games, VHS tapes, clothes and books (incl. a healthy stack of movie tie-ins and adaptation paperbacks from the ‘70s and ‘80s), a whole pile of German beer coasters, 45 boxes, unused blank tapes, gorgeous stationery from decades past, art, jewelry, home decor and so much more. Forecast is calling for rain in the AM but I have enough plastic dropcloth to fortify our tent to where it’s gonna look like Patrick Bateman’s apartment (which is how we’re navigating the “creepy” part of it), and all the records are bagged, and I have shopping bags for you to put ‘em in, so don’t worry about it. Macroplastics. Put on your (presumably plastic) raincoat and come get artificial with me.

Keep sending the music to me: PO Box 25717 Chicago IL 60625 USA // [email protected].

And please share this writing wherever you can, and subscribe to keep it, and me, afloat. Renewals are so very appreciated.
