Heathen Disco Music Reviews #0109 (July 15, 2025)

All blown out: Florry, Motörhead, Eddy Current and more

Once again I’m keeping this one short — got some places to be tonight (Empty Bottle for the Guiding Light gig, and if you hurry you might make it too). Gonna be taking this on the road next week, and look forward to writing this thing up in Cincinnati, Lewisburg WV, and for a good stretch, the bottom tip of the North Carolina coast. Maybe more shenanigans on the way back too, will letcha know. If you’re in the vicinity, tell me what’s up, show me where the good times are.

Submissions as always to [email protected] / PO Box 25717 Chicago IL 60625 USA.

And hey, you should subscribe, because that $3 adds up for me, and I should probably get my car checked out before I split. Doin’ it off your backs feels right.

FLORRY Sounds Like ... LP (Dear Life)

Third go-round for Francie Medosch’s gutsy, ramblin’ rural rock outfit, and they’re all hitting their stride. Very Stonesy as it pops the clutch, with swings towards and away from roots. Medosch can project like nobody else in this space right now, and has the most unique voice in the room, like a guileless Jagger impression, with songs careening around to match. Slows down, bears down, burns all the way through. These folks put their fuckin’ foot in it and while I also enjoy a more tamped down approach that explodes when needed, this plays like live ordinance all the way through, blowing it up at the outset and parading around in the wreckage. I’ll cop that it sounds like Florry, if this is the way it is now; there ain’t much else in this space this gloriously demented, and rather than spoil the surprise i’ll just have you put this on and fall out of your chair.
