Heathen Disco Music, Etc. Reviews #0152 – Year-Ends Pt. 3 (December 16, 2025)
Really good list of records from 2025, and movies from earlier
Call the writing beneath the fold “honing my skills” but yeah, more film stuff. I think if you are curious enough about good music, you should be watching good movies as well. Taste in film swings wider, sometimes broader. Maybe some of what I like in movies would be the equivalent of listening to a Sleep Chamber LP, something I don’t often have the occasion to do. But here we are.
Just as exciting, here are 2025 releases, largely covered here throughout the year in detail, that I thought were very good. Subscribe and dip into the archives to get to those thoughts.
COFFIN PRICK Loose Enchantment LP (Temporal Drift)
ELLE BARBARA’S BLACK SPACE Word on the Street LP (House of Barbara/Celluloid Lunch/Perennial/K)
THALIA ZEDEK BAND The Boat Outside Your Window LP (Thrill Jockey)
CHRIS BROKAW Ghost Ship LP (12XU)
TY SEGALL Possession LP (Drag City)
LIFEGUARD Ripped and Torn LP (Matador)
CHRONOPHAGE Musical Attack: Communist + Anarchist Friendship 7” EP (PPM)
SAMARA LUBELSKI V1/V2 LP (Daksina)
TIM BARNES Noumena LP / Lost Words LP (Quakebasket)
HELEN ISLAND Silence Is Priceless LP (Knekelhuis)
MATT JENCIK & MIDWIFE Never Die LP (Relapse)
REST SYMBOL s/t LP (FO)
ORCUTT/SHELLEY/MILLER s/t LP (Silver Current)
SHUTARO NOGUCHI AND THE ROADHOUSE BAND On the Run LP (Feeding Tube/Sophomore Lounge)
MAURA WEAVER Strange Devotion LP (Feel It)
ROMÉO POIRIER Off the Record LP (Faitiche)
A few more of these lists are en route, and I’ll finish out the year with my official top 10 and what’s ahead. Probably gonna run something about the records I didn’t get to in time, and extend that through January, along with coverage of other peoples’ lists and my thoughts on them. Mostly seeing a lot of the same stuff coming through, wondering if it’s gonna be that kinda year.
