MOVIES OF 2026

Here’s a rundown of everything new I have seen and have something to say about since the beginning of this year. These 13 films are recent releases only, movies that premiered in 2025 and opened/streamed in 2026, or movies new to 2026, threaded together in a way that I thought made sense.

I’ve seem some real crap in this time and I’ll save you a trip on that stuff. Anything I’ve covered here should get you closer to the way I see things, which I think is pretty cool. And there’s some music-related comment in here too.

I feel overall more engaged with current movies than I have for a while, and in a lot of ways I think the industry slowdown around making movies has allowed for more interesting stuff to pop up through the cracks, which gives the occasional notion of taking a chance with one’s vision more likely than usual.

This isn’t the stuff of mine you may have read on Letterboxd.

Therefore this post is going to be for those with a paid subscription. But it’s cheap and easy to sort that out right here.

And over on Purple Vu stay tuned and subscribe for a similar recap of all the not-new movies I saw this year worth a shit.

Music reviews later in the week, and will expound on it more then but wanted to recognize the rock-solid musical contributions made to heavy basement noise rock mechanics from bassist Rebecca Burchette of Multicult, who lost her long battle with cancer. Rest in peace to an absolute legend.
